William George Favell

William George Favell – Private 5582 2nd/7th Battalion, London Regiment died on Wednesday, 7th June 1916 aged 29. The CWG notes that he was the husband of Mrs R E Greenaway (formerly Favell), of 25, Humbolt Road, Fulham, London. His grave is at Kensal Green (All Soul’s) Cemetery, London. ‘Soldiers died’ gives his residence as Fulham and states that he enlisted at Sun Street.

The 2/7th Battalion was formed in London in September 1914 and in the November was allocated to the 174th Brigade 58th division and was stationed at Burgess Hill. In May 1915 it was moved to Norwich and in June on to Ipswich and then in October to Stowmarket. In January 1916 it was at Sudbury then in April moved to Foxhall Heath where it must have been stationed when he died. It was not until January 1917 that the Battalion was moved to France.

William’s Pension record card shows that he left two children.  William George, born in 1914 and Brenda Irene born in 1916.  It also records that he died from a form of septicaemia.
